VIG Co. April 21 2024. Where are we now?

Good morning:

Markets are down again today.

Here is one of our views of the SP500 today. On each chart, there are ten indicators on (a bit longer-term ) weekly and monthly basis for the SP500. Nothing magical about this, just a snapshot of where we are currently. Only 1 of 10 weekly indicators is bullish. And, 6 of 10 on a monthly basis are bullish. So, conditions in total are roughly 35% bullish.

Our current holdings reflect that. We are approximately 40% long equities. 40% cash, short-term treasuries, and money market funds. We also have short positions in the SP500, as well as gold, the yen, silver and bitcoin holdings. We are positioned defensively.

As a performance comparison, the SP500 is down 3% today. We are down only .33%. We will call that a win.

As these indicators improve, we will turn more bullish. If they continue to digress, we will incrementally add more defense.

Over the past couple of months, we have quit taking new clients, and after 10 strong years, we have closed our newsletter. We are continuing to focus on beating the market in good times and bad.
